The PPL(A) theory exam in Poland — how it works and where to sit it

2026-05-24

In Poland, the PPL(A) theory exam is run by the Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) — specifically its Aviation Examination Board. Here's a short, general overview. Always check the current rules on the ULC site for specifics.

Scope — 9 subjects

The exam covers 9 theory subjects, from air law to navigation. Each is sat separately. You'll find the full list with explanations on our subject pages.

Language and question bank

PPL exams are held in Polish, based on the national question bank (Krajowy Bank Pytań), with an English preview available. That's why Pilot Test Zone offers studying in both Polish and English. ULC also publishes sample exam questions.

Pass threshold

To pass a subject you need at least 75% correct answers. The number of questions and the time limit vary by subject.

Registration, attempts and time window

  • Register at least 30 days before the examination session.
  • Each subject may be attempted up to 4 times, and you may use only one attempt per subject per session.
  • All subjects must be passed within 18 months — with no limit on the number of sessions.
  • Sitting the exam involves an aviation fee.

Current session dates, rules, and fees are on the ULC site:

How to prepare

Most effective: practise questions regularly under conditions close to the real test. That's what we built Pilot Test Zone for — a question bank and a mock-exam mode, in Polish and English. You can browse some of the questions with their correct answers right in your browser, for example meteorology or communications.
